Tattoo Removal – When I can’t treat you

Before your appointment, please could you take a look at the list of medical conditions, medications and skin health. It looks a bit serious doesn’t it - but checking it now should prevent any delay, harm, or disappointment at your appointment. Some conditions are contraindicated, meaning that it is not safe for me to carry out treatment. However some health problems may require confirmation from your Doctor, GP, Consultant, Pharmacist, or Nurse Practitioner, that in their medical opinion it is safe to proceed with treatment, with no addition risks to your health. If this is the case an additional consent form will require signing

Medical Conditions

  • Clotting disorders
  • Haemophilia
  • Platelet disorders
  • Epilepsy
  • Heart disease
  • Heart valve replacement
  • Diabetes (Will require confirmation from doctor before going ahead)
  • Thyroid Disease
  • Pregnant, Planning Pregnancy, Breast feeding
  • Keloid Scars
  • Acne
  • Cancer (Radiotherapy or chemotherapy)
  • Herpes
  • Melanoma/ moles
  • Psoriasis
  • Skin pigmentation
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Vitiligo
  • Lupus
  • Liver/Kidney disease
  • Port wine stain
  • Haemangioma
  • Shingles
  • Pacemaker, ICD
  • Active tan for 30 days, sunbed use or fake tanning products
  • AIDS, HIV
  • Hepatitis
  • Use of Botox in the area
  • Metal implants in area to be treated
  • Breast implants in the area to be treated
  • Frequent requirement of MRI or CT scans

30 Day Rule - Before and after tattoo removal sessions:

  • If it's for your consultation and patch test, or removal session. You need to ensure every time:
  • You have kept the area to be treated out of the sun in the last 30 days
  • Not used sunbeds
  • Not used tanning products
  • Not had any sunny holidays
  • Not have an active tan in the area to be treated
  • If I treat you with a tan, I could cause lightening or darkening of the skin, or risk scaring
  • Ensure you can keep the area you want treating covered with clothing a SPF 30+ sun cream.

Medications:

If you are currently taking any medication NOT of the list below please ask for a doctor’s advice regarding any possible photosensitivity (tattoo removal only), bleeding, healing or other health risk.  BEFORE CONSULTATION thank you:

  • Current retinoid use
  • Acne creams, Ointments, or tablets
  • Lansoprazole 1 in 1,000 photosensitive reaction (Will require confirmation from doctor/pharmacist before going ahead)
  • Antibiotics
  • Cardiac medication
  • Warfarin
  • Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, Dabigatran
  • Aspirin
  • Gold Theray
  • Johns Wart
  • Other herbal supplements
  • Sulphonamides and related chemicals
  • Diuretics: Chlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide, quinethzone
  • Antidiabetic: Sulphonylureas, Carbamides
  • Rarely: Paraphenylenediamine. Procaine group of anaesthetics
  • Antibiotics: Declomysin, Chlortetracycline (aureomysin), Isoniaxid, Nalidixic Acid
  • Antifungal: Griseofulvin
  • Antimicrobials: Sulphathiazone, long acting Sulphonamides
  • Antiarrhythmic drugs
  • Amitripteline (slightly)
  • Amioderone
  • Antipsychotic Drugs: Chloromazine, Promazine, trimeprazine, Meprazine, Phenothiazines, Romezathine etc.
  • Chlorodiazepoxide
  • Antihistamines not of Phenothiazine Structure
  • Antihistamine and Cold remedies: Diphenhydramine
  • Antimalarial drugs: Chloroquinine
  • Others: Psoralens, Stilbamidine, 9-aminoacridine, eosin, Trypaflavine, methylene blue (temporary surgical tattoos), Rose Bengal (opthalamic dye)
